Sing without Tension: The Belly Mouth

Happy Thanksgiving, singers! Today’s exercise is a simple idea to bypass tension in the throat by refocusing our singing production in the belly.

I learned this exercise from Allison over at The Sacred Voice Studio.

The idea is SUPER simple: make a little “mouth” shape with your hands, place it at the level of your belly button, and sing, imagining the sound is coming right from that Belly Mouth. It really changes the feeling of singing, and bypasses some of that locked-up feeling in the neck.

If you’re looking to do deeper work on your voice, hightail it over to Allison’s website – I love her teaching and you will, too: https://www.thesacredvoice.studio Or follow her on IG

Enjoy!
